NALCAB Welcomes Tonantzin Carmona to Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, DC, June 8, 2026 — NALCAB (National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders) announced the appointment of Tonantzin Carmona, Fellow at the Brookings Institution, to its Board of Directors.

Carmona’s career spans federal policy, research, communications, and philanthropy. She previously served as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy at the White House National Economic Council and as Senior Advisor in the Department of Treasury’s Inflation Reduction Act Implementation Office. Her research at Brookings focuses on wealth and inequality, financial and emerging technologies, and state and local policy implementation.

At the local level, Carmona has led citywide initiatives in Chicago, serving as Director of the Mayor’s Office of New Americans and as Chief of Policy to the Chicago City Clerk. Her work and commentary have been featured in The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, CNN, Politico, NPR Marketplace, and others.

She holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a BA in political science from Northwestern University.

“Joining NALCAB’s board is an opportunity to connect the research and policy work I care most about to the organizations actually building economic power in Latino communities,” Carmona said. “The members NALCAB serves are doing essential work, and I’m honored to support that mission.”

“Tonantzin brings a perspective that is specific and timely,” said Marla Bilonick, President and CEO of NALCAB. “Her experience at the intersection of federal policy and applied research will strengthen how we advocate for our members and position NALCAB’s work in national conversations about economic prosperity.”

With this appointment, NALCAB’s Board of Directors expands to 13 members. The full NALCAB Board of Directors can be found at www.nalcab.org/board.
