Training & Leadership Development

Investing in community

NALCAB’s Training & Leadership Development programs invest in leaders and practitioners who are advancing community economic development in diverse communities across all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. Whether they are just starting their careers or leading organizations, these individuals are working to expand opportunity, build assets, and strengthen local economies.

We provide immersive leadership development experiences, tailored training, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities that help nonprofit professionals grow their skills, expand their networks, and increase their impact.

LEADERSHIP & LEARNING

NALCAB pledges to provide an environment of mutual respect where participation is available to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Pete Garcia Community Economic Development Fellowship

The Pete Garcia Fellowship is NALCAB’s flagship program for emerging leaders in the community development field. Established in 2010, the 11-month fellowship equips participants with technical training, leadership development, and peer learning. Fellows strengthen their ability to lead, collaborate, and drive impact within their organizations and the communities they serve. To date, the program has graduated over 200 leaders representing 122 organizations across 27 states, DC, and Puerto Rico.

National Conference

The NALCAB National Conference is the premier national convening for nonprofit professionals driving community economic development. Each year, the event brings together hundreds of practitioners, funders, and public-sector allies to engage in timely conversations, hands-on learning, and networking. Sessions cover topics like small business development, housing, rural strategies, nonprofit operations, and capital access. Attendees participate in peer learning and explore real-world revitalization through local site visits with NALCAB members.
In 2025, the National Conference—Leading the Way: Abriendo Caminos—will take place in Nashville, TN, from September 15–17. This year’s theme centers on expanding capital access, strengthening nonprofit leadership, and advancing locally driven economic growth. Click here to register or learn more.
