Summary
The Director of Resource Development is a key member of NALCAB’s External Affairs team,
responsible for leading the organization’s institutional fundraising operations. This includes
managing grant writing, proposal development, and funder communications, as well as coordinating
cross-departmental efforts to develop high-quality, data-informed submissions.
Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, the Director co-stewards relationships with
institutional funders and supports the tracking and reporting of fundraising performance. This
position is supported by the Resource Development & Impact Coordinator and collaborates closely
with the Impact Assessment Manager to integrate data into compelling funder materials. The
Director works in partnership with NALCAB’s senior leadership team to ensure fundraising aligns
with organizational goals and priorities.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Grant Writing & Proposal Management
- Lead the full lifecycle of institutional grant submissions, including proposal writing, concept
notes, letters of inquiry, renewals, and attachments.
- Develop compelling, mission-aligned narratives that reflect NALCAB’s work and impact
across all programmatic initiatives.
- Collaborate with Program, Finance, Communications, and Impact Assessment teams to
create strategies, gather input, and ensure accuracy and consistency across applications.
- Maintain a robust grants calendar and manage proposal timelines, internal review
processes, and deadlines.
Funder Stewardship
- In partnership with the Chief External Affairs Officer and NALCAB’s executive leadership
team, co-steward relationships with foundation, corporate, and government funders.
- Prepare funder talking points and briefing materials that clearly demonstrate NALCAB’s
impact and outcomes.
- Support preparation for funder meetings, site visits, and events through coordination and
written materials.
- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and support the development of
customized stewardship strategies.
Internal Coordination & Development Operations
- Oversee proposal systems, templates, boilerplate language, and standard attachments.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of proposals, awards, reports, and stewardship
activities using internal grant tracking systems.
- Track fundraising performance across institutional sources and assist in preparation of
board and leadership updates.
- Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Supervise or mentor Resource Development team members.
- Participate in cross-functional planning efforts, providing development input to annual
planning, budgeting, and external communications projects.
- Contribute to the External Affairs department’s goals and collaborate closely with
colleagues in Communications, Membership, and Impact Assessment to align messaging
and funding needs.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Supervise or mentor Resource Development team members.
- Participate in cross-functional planning efforts, providing development input to annual
planning, budgeting, and external communications projects.
- Contribute to the External Affairs department’s goals and collaborate closely with
colleagues in Communications, Membership, and Impact Assessment to align messaging
and funding needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, relevant graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in grant writing, management, and institutional fundraising,
with a proven track record in securing foundation, corporate, and/or government support.
- Demonstrated track record of working independently and leading teams
- Outstanding experience in donor stewardship, prospect research, and the identification of
new funding opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, compelling proposals and funder reports for diverse
audiences.
- Experience managing fundraising CRMs (e.g., Network for Good, Blackbaud) and familiarity
with grant compliance, budget tracking, and reporting requirements.
- Excellent project and time management skills with an eye for detail and ability to juggle
multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and entrepreneurial environment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% for member and funder meetings, events, and conferences.

$90,000 – $115,000
*NALCAB pays a 26% salary differential for DC based staff.
