U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan to Address Latino Community Development Conference
(Washington, DC) -- U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Shaun Donovan will deliver the keynote address at the 7th annual conference of National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB). More than 200 grassroots and national leaders are expected to attend.
NALCAB is a national organization that represents more than 75 nonprofit organizations in 26 states and the District of Columbia that focus on job creation, neighborhood stabilization and consumer financial education. A national consortium of 13 NALCAB member organizations, led by Chicanos Por La Causa of Arizona, received a $137 million investment from U.S. HUD's National Stabilization Program (NSP) to acquire and rehabilitate foreclosed and vacant property. This investment in predominately Latino communities is helping to generate or retain over a thousand jobs in areas hit hard by the recession. The NALCAB conference offers the opportunity for participants from across the country to connect with asset building practitioners, funders and public policy makers from both the public and private sectors, to discuss best practices and strategies for economic development in communities of color.
